How to Arrange for Thai Food Catering

Thai food has found its way to worldwide prominence thanks to the growing number of restaurants that showcase the country’s cuisine to international diners. There are times when you find restaurants that offer a Thai menu alongside more mainstream cuisines such as American, Italian, and Chinese, while at the same time there are establishments that promote solely Thai food. This gives you more options when you find yourself craving for dishes such as Pad Thai or Tom Yum.

But have you ever thought about Thai food catering for an event that you are working on? Well, it would be great to serve Thai food in a big gathering, such as a party or a celebration. But how exactly should you do it? Here are a few tips:

  1. Find a caterer that is known to provide Thai food.

This may sound direct and easy to follow, but at the same time it is a task that’s difficult to achieve. This is because not all Thai restaurants are capable of doing catering services, so it is best that you canvass for possible vendors at the earliest time possible.

When scouting for a caterer, you may want to look at the following factors: the dishes they include in their menu, the maximum number of people that they can serve, the timeframe of preparation, and the price range.

The timeframe of food preparation is very important because there are ingredients that have to be imported all the way from Thailand, and these may take days to be received. The price range also has to be taken into consideration as you have to make sure that you are paying the caterer at a reasonable rate.

  1. Choose a mix of mainstream and not-so-mainstream dishes.

Once you have chosen a caterer, you should work together in forming a menu for the food to be prepared and served. These include the number of dishes to serve, the amount to be served, and the types of the dishes to be showcased.

It would be best if you choose a mix of well known and relatively unpopular dishes. This is to introduce your guests to the different types of dishes Thai food has to offer, so that they too are able to undergo a journey to Thailand by means of food.

Just like in booking other vendors for your party needs, you must also make your catering reservations ahead of time. This is not only for you to nail the date that you want your event to be held, but more importantly to give your caterer ample time to prepare for the dishes to be served.

Unlike other cuisines, Thai food can be difficult to arrange for catering. This is because most of the ingredients, in particular the herbs, spices, and seasonings used in the dishes are ordered from Thai markets. It takes days or even weeks for a bulk order of ingredients to arrive, and the caterer will likewise place an order in advance so that they could accommodate your booking.

  1. Inform your guests about your menu.

Lastly, you should also inform your invited guests that you are going for Thai food catering. While not all of them are well-versed with Thai food, some of them may have ideas on the best dishes to serve. You can then ask them for their opinions and suggestions then use these when picking the dishes to be done by the caterer during the event.
